LinkedIn is an enterprise, business, and employment-oriented social network. It is one of the most widely used networking tools nowadays, as it is excellent for searching and posting job opportunities worldwide, and expanding your professional network. Read on and find out all about this professional tool.
Discover this professional network
To register on LinkedIn, you must enter the website from your browser or download the app from an Android or iOS device. Once you log in, you create your profile with an email or link to your Facebook or Google account, then you must complete your profile data. There you can write a brief introduction about yourself, including your professional experience and academic history, languages, and your interests and skills. You should also include a profile picture and your contact information so that you can be contacted by other means.
Key Features
Using the network is very easy, from the search bar you can search for companies and people and connect with them. Here are some basic functions:
- In the Home tab, you can see the activity of the people and accounts you follow. From this tab, you can also create posts, and see the hashtags you follow and the groups you are in.
- In My Network, you will see invitations to connect, recommendations of people and pages to follow, and groups that might interest you and that you can join. If, for example, you include in your professional experience a company where you used to work, in this tab you will be able to see people who also work or worked there.
- In the Jobs tab, you can indicate whether you are looking for a job or not, and you will see available job opportunities. If you click on the opportunities, you will see a more detailed description of the post, and you can apply for the position or save it to check it later.
- Under Messages, you can view your private conversations with other colleagues.
- In Notifications, you will see your contacts' work anniversaries, birthdays, notifications of your posts, and much more.
Learn with LinkedIn
One of the functions of this social network that you can get the most out of is its LinkedIn Learning section. Here you can find thousands of courses and training on various topics, from tutorials about how to use certain programs such as Illustrator, to public speaking courses. The opportunities are endless.
In the search bar of this section, you can type in the topic you are interested in or browse the Home tab and see popular topics, recommendations, or courses oriented to the skills you uploaded in your Profile when you registered. Many of the courses are professionally certified by leading companies, such as Microsoft.
This section is paid, but you can always use the one-month free trial. If you are registered on LinkedIn as a company, you can purchase packages for your team to encourage professional development with personalized and interactive training from experts.
LinkedIn for Businesses
From your account, you can create a company profile if you own a company and want to promote it through LinkedIn. From the For Business tab, click on Create a Company Page, fill in the required information, and include a URL to your company's official website. With this type of profile, you will be able to post job openings and search for staff, publish relevant company updates, network, and attract new customers.
In a Nutshell
LinkedIn is a very complete tool for doing business, but to get the most out of it, you must interact with your network of contacts. That means publishing content, keeping your profile updated, and expanding your network, among other things. After all, it's a social network, and why would you want to be on it if you don't interact? It has so many functions that it is best that you start exploring it by yourself.
